Dr. Pepper was created by Charles Alderton in Waco, Texas, in the 1880s. You can stop by the Dr. Pepper museum in Waco on your way to your dental appointment with Dr. Corbet Locke. Although we are located in the city of a soft drink invention, we want to warn you of the consequences of consuming too much Dr. Pepper (and other sodas).
Tooth Staining
Dark-colored beverages can stain your teeth. Your enamel will soak up the color, turning your teeth yellow, brown, or gray. Fortunately, if Dr. Pepper consumption has discolored your smile, Dr. Locke offers teeth whitening treatments to restore your pearly whites.
Enamel Erosion & Decay
The sweeteners in soda mix with the bacteria in your mouth, creating a powerful acid. When the acid attacks your teeth, tooth enamel softens. Over the course of an hour or so, tooth enamel will re-harden as saliva re-mineralizes it. However, enamel is vulnerable to erosion and tooth decay when it is soft. To rinse away acid and bacteria, and to help re-mineralize your teeth after drinking a cola or eating a sugary snack, drink a glass of tap water (it has fluoride!).
If you do drink dark, sugary beverages, don’t let your smile show it. Keep soda consumption to mealtimes when you can balance your mouth with other foods. In addition, drink soft drinks through a straw to protect your teeth from the sugars, and rinse your mouth with water afterwards. We’re the home of Dr. Pepper, and we can also be the home of your dream smile. Dr. Locke can fix your staining, decay, and other tooth troubles.
