In a week Valentine’s Day will be here. If you have plans with your significant other we know you want to look your best. What can you do to remove teeth stains and enjoy a brighter smile? Fortunately, we offer cosmetic treatments to remove discoloration. Do you want to brighten your smile for Valentine’s Day?
Teeth Whitening to Brighten Your Smile
If you want to remove surface stains, then we can provide professional teeth whitening. The first option is Zoom! Whitening, which is an office-based treatment. The doctor places a bleaching gel onto the teeth and activates it with a curing light; often brightening teeth by up to eight shades in under an hour. We have another office-based procedure, Sinsational Smiles, which also employs a bleaching gel and light but is less intensive, whitening teeth by around two or three shades.
If you prefer, you can also receive a home-based treatment. You will come to the office and the dentist will take impressions of your teeth, fabricating a set of whitening trays. Each day, you will fill the trays with a beaching gel and wear them for the amount of time the doctor recommends. Optimal results typically take about one to two weeks.
Porcelain Veneers
What if you have more permanent intrinsic stains? These are teeth stains that form below the enamel and sometimes don’t respond well to traditional teeth whitening. In this situation, we can discuss masking the discoloration with veneers.
Made from porcelain, these thin shells are placed onto the front of the teeth. They look natural and blend with our smile, completely altering the appearance of the tooth. Receiving one takes about two visits and requires removing a thin layer of enamel to make room for the restoration.
How Do I Make My Results Last?
There are steps you can take to help your newly brightened smile or restorations stay bright for long periods. We encourage patients to:
- Brush and floss daily
- Cut back on sugary foods and drinks with dark pigments
- Avoid smoking or other tobacco products
- Have teeth cleaned once every six months
