YouTube is not only a place to watch funny videos about cats playing the piano or “Charlie bit my finger!” It is also a source of education and information. I’m Dr. Corbet Locke of Waco Dental Care, and I am proud to announce that I have launched a YouTube channel.

Most people know the main cause of periodontal disease or gum disease is plaque.  Gum disease includes gingivitis and periodontitis, which are serious infections that, left untreated, can lead to tooth loss.   In my earlier blog, Healthy Gums Equal a Healthy Mouth, we discussed what gum disease is. Do you have red, swollen, tender gums that bleed when you brush or floss or teeth? Maybe you suffer from bad breath and hardened plaque build-up at the gum line. If so, you might have gum disease and don’t even know it.

If you have gum disease, be assured that you are not alone. 80{dcbe0cd52ce35e2f156887e14605e24111ce99c14f01d3853732956d43020bdd} of Americans have gum disease, which results from the emission of bacteria from plaque and tarter build up at the gum line, which eventually irritates the sensitive gum tissue.

I’m Dr. Corbet Locke, a Waco-based dentist, and I’m here to remind you about your mouth’s most amazing natural feature: your tooth enamel.

Tooth enamel, the hard, white substance covering each of your teeth, is your smile’s natural defense system. Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body. In fact, it is the second hardest naturally occurring substance, second only to diamonds. If that isn’t great protection for your teeth, then I don’t know what is!

I’m sure you have already been asked what your new year’s resolution is for this year. It seems like these goals are at the top of everyone’s list of priorities right now, but chances are they will be long forgotten by the end of the month.

I am Dr. Corbet Locke of Waco Dental, and I have a new year’s challenge for you. Instead of making a resolution that affects only one area of your life (physical, professional, personal, etc.), why not set a goal that will positively impact your overall well being?

My challenge to you is to exercise your right to a beautiful smile.

I’m sure we all remember being told to brush our teeth as a little kid. It seems like getting the kids to brush their teeth now a days is a chore, too. It’s unfortunate that teaching kids good brushing habits is so difficult, but the truth is that it’s incredibly important. Healthy habits start young and impact oral health throughout your lifetime. I am Dr. Corbet Locke of Waco Dental and I want to tell you about the importance of maintaining healthy habits.
