I’m Dr. Corbet Locke, a Waco-based dentist, and I recently came across an article in the Waco Tribune Herald that got me thinking.
The article was about achieving your perfect smile with “perfectly imperfect teeth.” Recently, this topic has been popular in the dental world, mostly because it focuses on the specific goal of cosmetic dentistry.
The goal of cosmetic dentistry is to give you a healthy, beautiful, complete smile, not necessarily a flawless one. I offer many cosmetic procedures here at my office, and I prescribe them to my patients based on their needs and dental goals. There is not one procedure that will give every patient everywhere their definition of a “perfect” smile.
This article suggested that “perfectly imperfect teeth” are the way to go. Most people want natural-looking, healthy smiles, not bulky, super-white teeth seen on a lot of celebrities. Feldspathic veneers may be the answer for you.
I am proud to offer feldspathic veneers to my patients. This procedure can be done right here in my office. By using this special type of veneers, clear porcelain can be added near the gum line portion of the veneer. This creates a contact lens effect, so that you cannot see where the tooth and veneer come together.
Believe it or not, this technique alone helps to give the allusion of natural teeth. This is because natural teeth tend to be darker at the gum line. I have found that this difference is one of the things that makes traditional veneers obvious, which is never something you want with your cosmetic dental work.
